Progress Report September 12, 2012 Print

1.  Kudos for Dorothy Leavell: Our board member, Dorothy Leavell, was inducted into the Broadcasters Hall of Fame on September 9, 2012.  The event which occurs annually in Akron, Ohio inducted Dorothy for her 50 years working as a newspaper publisher and past Chair of the National Newspaper Publisher Association (NNPA), past NNPA Treasurer and past NNPA Foundation Chair.  Congratulations Dorothy!!

2.  THE SOCIAL NETWORK:  BUILDING BUSINESS THROUGH FACEBOOK: This event will occur during the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Annual Legislative Conference on Thursday, September 20, 2012 during 1:30PM – 3:30PM in Room 207-A, Walter E. Washington Convention Center, 801 Mount Vernon Place NW, Washington, DC.  Guests should register online via www.cbcfinc.org/alc.html or onsite at the Convention Center.  Registration for this event is free.

3.  Help the Victims of Hurricane Isaac: Our River Region Multi-Cultural Chamber of Commerce in southern Louisiana is conducting a drive to collect clothing for the victims of Hurricane Isaac.  Please consider participating as our fellow Americans have been hit extremely hard and are in need.  For more information contact Charles DeBow at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. 4.  Wanted in Equatorial Guinea: Our contacts in this nation are in search of a Black owned bank, insurance company and a small airline for local service.  If you own such and are considering expansion, this nation is willing to assist you in making Equatorial Guinea your latest franchise location.

5.  Congress is Back: It is with great concern that Sequestration, AKA Fiscal Cliff, may become a reality.  Please encourage your congressional leaders to come together for a few weeks and settle this matter.  What is at stake is the economic future of our nation.  We can easily lose 700,000 jobs via small business tax increases (according to Ernst & Young).  Also, our military will have to let go over 300,000 active duty personnel which would weaken our ability to defend ourselves and make our national security tenuous.  Yes, our way of life and our children’s future is on the line if Capitol Hill and the White House cannot get it together by the end of the year.  THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS.

6.  PanAfrican Entrepreneurs Conference: Learn about opportunities across the Black Diaspora and meet entrepreneurs currently doing business around the world. Join us in Houston, as we develop policy and address issues relating to international trade. See you November 15-18. Register today and save money with the Early Bird Registration rate.  www.panafricanec.org
