AGENDA FOR THE 2010 FALL SUMMIT

Green Contractor Certifications for Businesses:  LEED, GPI and other certifications are now being required of our business owners.  How do you get certified? How much is the training? Are there grants? How much business is out there?  These and many questions impose a dilemma on the typical small business.  We have gone out and found the answers and made the partnerships.  At the Summit we will give a two hour presentation on how this works and how to get your training funded and your certifications active.  This is the new frontier and WE ARE ON IT.

NBCCBIDS.COM:  Our new web procurement portal is ready for roll out.  It will give our members every bid the federal government and 37 states have to offer on an ongoing basis.  History for RFP’s, winning bids, upcoming expirations, etc. will be available and it will make you competitive like never before.  Board member Nate Rido has tested it on his business and gives it his seal of approval.  Get ready you are about to BLOW UP!

Black Student Union Initiative:  The partnership between the NBCC and Black Student Unions located on campuses throughout the nation is being solidified.  You will hear a dynamic presentation by the California network (UCSB Campus) on how we will work together for increasing economic empowerment in our communities and building a breeding ground for entrepreneurs and leaders.

NBCC Chapters in Black Churches:  We will present our new Church Chamber program which will empower our larger churches in assembling the business base of their members and developing them into community pillars of entrepreneurship and jobs.  We will unveil two programs we are assembling in Miami and Houston which can be emulated throughout the nation.

SBA Management System:  We have resolved to improve the outreach and effectiveness of our Small Business Administration at the field level, particularly the local districts.  We will be working with other national organizations to develop a “score card” on each district’s activity and will submit the score card annually to applicable congressional members so that we can inform them of SBA’s effectiveness within their district.  Speaking about this initiative at the Summit will be the Honorable Hector Barreto, former SBA Administrator and CEO of the Latino Coalition – a partner of the NBCC.

Goals for 2011:  We will decide on prioritizing our goals for calendar year 2011.  You all are encouraged to submit ideas in writing ahead of time so that we can measure and thoroughly discuss it with closure at the Summit.  Also, we will review the November 2 elections and decide which is the best approach for the upcoming 112th Congress (Legislative Agenda).

Kenya is Open for Business:  We are excited about the new Kenya 2030 initiative.  The Honorable Elkanah Odembo, Ambassador of Kenya, will be speaking about the aggressive approach this vibrant nation is taking to develop a new Middle Class by the year 2030.  Infrastructure, energy, capacity building will be the leading areas and entrepreneurs from America are invited to evaluate the opportunities.

Election of New Chair:  At our Board Meeting during the Fall Summit, we will elect our new Chair for the year 2011.  The Nominating Committee will present its candidate for the vote.

November 11-13, 2010:  Meet us in Los Angeles at our Annual Fall Summit.  Hotel is just $105 per night conveniently located at the Westin at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and registration is just $40 in advance ($75 at the door) including welcome reception and lunch and the panels mentioned above.  See you there!
