Representative Randy Hultgren (R-IL) will discuss his bill, the Regulatory Sunset and Review Act (H.R. 3068), which wouldimplement a sunset review process for significant regulations—agencies would be required to regularly review significant rules. Thebill would play an important role in reducing the costs imposed on business.

There have been wildly conflicting claims by various organizations, and even the Obama Administration, as to the true number andcost of federal regulations. The panel will examine these claims and separate the myths from the facts. Specifically, the panel willaddress:

  1. What are the costs of recent regulations compared to past regulations?
  2. Has the number of regulations increased?
  3. Has the number of “economically significant” and/or “major” rules increased?
  4. Are the Obama Administration regulations more beneficial than the Bush Administration regulations as is being claimed?
