1.  Server Update: Our server was being updated Monday thru Wednesday morning of this week.  If any of you sent emails to personnel at our National Office, please resend them as they are lost in cyberspace.

2.  Meeting on East Africa with Deputy Secretary Michael Camunez: The Deputy Secretary will be discussing his recent visit to Kenya and Tanzania and the opportunities that are developing.  The meeting will take place on Tuesday, June 12, 2012, from 9:00AM to 10:00AM.  The meeting will be hosted at the U.S. Department of Commerce, which is located at 1401 Constitution Avenue, NW, Room 1410.  You must RSVP by tomorrow June 7.

3.  Creating RFP’s at TCPN: The Cooperative Purchasing Network, the largest purchasing cooperative in North America wants NBCC members to know that it is in the process of writing various RFP’s targeting the minority business community.  Those members doing more than a million dollars in annual revenues should contact John Ricks at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. 4.  Stop Predatory Lending: Numerous state legislatures are pondering the presence of predatory lenders AKA Pay Day Lenders.  The NBCC is strongly against these operations which “suck the economic blood from our residents”.  Some states, such as Pennsylvania, are considering to allow Annual Percentage Rates, APR, of such stores as high as 369%.  That is usury, plain and simple, and should not be allowed to fester in our communities.

5.  Our 20th Convention is Quickly Approaching: The Four Seasons Hotel is sold out of rooms for Thursday, July 19, but suites are still available. Overflow rooms have been added at the W Atlanta – Midtown for the night of Thursday, July 19 at the rate of $145 plus tax, $155 plus tax and $165 plus tax. (These special rates are only available on July 19.)
