Rep. Hastings Calls for Department of Education to Reconsider Gainful Employment Rules

In Case You Missed It: Rep. Alcee Hastings penned a great piece in Politico that urged the Department of Education’s to put a stop to its proposed Gainful Employment regulations. The op ed, Roll back rules that hurt college students, published on April 14th, argued that the Gainful Employment rules would disproportionately affect minority students who attend career colleges. The National Black Chamber of Commerce applauds Rep. Hastings for his support of this important issue that directly affects minority students.

“We must send a message to the Department of Education that it should abandon this ill-conceived proposal and work with Congress to develop measures that limit student debt, expand educational opportunities and measure educational quality across all sectors of higher education. I stand committed to improving the accessibility, effectiveness and accountability of our nation’s higher education system for all students. I hope the department can do the same.” – Rep. Alcee Hastings, Politico, April 14, 2011.
