1.  Congressional Hearings:  NBCC Board Member Anthony Robinson is doing a series of congressional hearings on the findings gathered during our recent field hearings in Chicago, Philadelphia, Washington, DC, St. Louis, New Orleans, Houston, Portland and Richmond, VA.  The issue of racial discrimination in the procurement areas is clear and overwhelming.  We witnessed a very ugly state of affairs our entrepreneurs are facing in terms of financing and contracting.  The Civil Rights Struggle is not complete.  Here is the first written and oral testimony given by Tony (here).

2.  Get Your Rooms for the Summit:  We were selling out but the Westin LAX has been gracious to increase our room rate block for the NBCC Fall Summit, November 11 – 13, 2010.  You all have until October 15 to take advantage of this rate.  Call  to reserve your room now at the rate of $105 per night - (310) 216-5858.  The information you are going to receive at the Summit will empower you in this adverse economy.  Your business and community depends on your attendance. Here is the Agenda for the summit (here).

3.  Become an Energy Ambassador:  The NBCC is organizing a group of advocates who will speak and write about energy policy issues.  Our ambassadors will participate at press conferences, letters to the editor, advertisements, editorials, etc. about the NBCC position on energy matters.  So far we have the services of John Harmon, President of the New Jersey African American Chamber of Commerce, and Zezell Dudley, Chair of the Louisiana Black Chamber of Commerce.  Our ambassadors along with Harry C. Alford will keep energy matters on the forefront and will ensure that good business policies will be protected and promoted.  Any potential volunteers should contact Ryan Downey at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. 4.  A Movement to Shrink the Federal Government:  Effective immediately, the NBCC will promote a movement to shrink the federal government by 40% by the year 2020.  Our federal government has grown to the size of “Godzilla” and it creates a dangerous debt and deficit, allows much abuse and waste and burdens our tax obligations.  We have a first world economy but manage it in a third world manner replete with corruption, malfeasance and lack of accountability.  It is time to shrink it and shrink it drastically.  We will begin this discussion and hopefully turn it into action. We are the largest Black business association in the world and we can start the ball to rolling. Let us run this nation like a well managed business – efficient, reliable and serving the needs of its people for the best price.

5.  Financing for Green Projects:  We have developed a partnership for investments in projects that will create new jobs and promote a cleaner environment.  Minimum investment is $5 million and we are now looking for good potential projects.  Come and learn more about this at the Fall Summit.

6.  Another Way to Increase the Deficit:  Now they want to spend an additional $50 billion for union only infrastructure projects (void of minorities and women) all the while this nation is in deep debt and has a deficit controlled by China and others.  How would we pay for this largesse?  They want to increase taxes on gasoline pump prices as if the Gulf Moratorium wasn’t bad enough.  That’s right – increase energy costs that would negatively affect every aspect of our economy.  We say HELL NO!  Let’s take away the check book, freeze the spending and pay the bills we owe.  No more insane ideas.
