1.  Legacy Project to be Included in 18th Annual Convention:  Our technical assistance and support model is a huge success.  By popular demand, the next session will be given on July 24 during our 18th Annual Convention.  Here are some comments about the last session:  “Congrats are in order for another great event.  I see the momentum is building across the nation.  Let’s keep it going.  Great job”! (Rev. Gass). “We hit a home run because of your wisdom.  This should be included at the conference as a work session.  They did not want to leave.  I ran out of voice.” (NBCC Chair Sherrie Gilchrist).  Yes, it is clicking and we are going to work it.  Come and see what a strong, active and valuable chamber chapter looks like. 2. Attempt to Expunge our Heritage and our Savior:  Forget the claim of a skirmish between Republicans and Democrats.  What happened last week at the Texas State School Board of Education was an ugly attempt to doctor history.  What one faction wanted to do is remove from future school books the references to great Black heroes like Frederick Douglas, Richard Allen (founder of the African Methodist Episcopal Church –AME and Revolutionary War Hero), Peter Whipple and Oliver Cromwell who were most valuable in the crossing of the Delaware River and Battle of Trenton with George Washington, Salem Poor, the hero of Bunker Hill and other Black heroes of the Revolutionary War, Civil War and other relevant events in our early history.  Plus that, they wanted to change the terms B.C. (before Christ’s birth) and A.D. (after Christ’s death).  Fortunately, they were pushed back and the history and references remain.  Why would such a vile attempt be made?  Who knows but one thing is for sure:  Don’t mess with Texas; don’t mess with our heroes and heritage and NEVER, EVER mess with our Savior!  Let’s continue to watch them.

3.  Round 1 to Us:  Immediately after our verbal beat down of the FCC’s (Federal Communication Commission) attempt to throw out civil rights standards to their guidelines, they reverse their decision.  The standards will now remain.  This may be temporary if we start “napping”.  They have already let it be known what their mindset is.  We must be vigilant.

4.  Calling for the Right Stuff:  It is very ironic.  Here we are – different President but the same place.  The Gulf is in danger by biblical proportions again.  We want to encourage President Obama to pick up the pace just like we encouraged President George W. Bush during Katrina.  In the end, he came through after he was justly criticized for pausing a couple of weeks.  We are in the second month of the BP oil debacle and nothing has really kicked in yet.  Remember, after Hurricane Betsy and President Lyndon B. Johnson went into the 9th Ward with his flashlight one night and went door to door and said to each family “Don’t worry, your President is here and you are going to be safe”.  Remember when John F. Kennedy went toe to toe with an international nut case named Nakita Khruschev over missiles in Cuba.  He said, “Try me”.  The dictator knew he meant it and backed down.  That is the kind of stuff we need in the Gulf now.  Therefore, we have made some suggestions to President Obama (review).
